arramus Posts: 1135 Joined: 2005-05-16 User Profile | There are 3 ways to host a multiplayer game in Republic Commando. These are: 1. Client Hosted Multiplayer Game Server. 2. LAN Multiplayer Game Server. 3. Dedicated Multiplayer Game Server. Let's see what each of these are in more detail. 1. Client Hosted Multiplayer Game Server. The Client Hosted Multiplayer Game Server can be set up by starting the game and going to: Republic Commando Main Menu > Multiplayer > Internet > Create Internet Game Here you can set up an internet multiplayer game that will display in the public server window. Select your maps, game settings and give your server a name. In the game settings area keep dedicated server as 'OFF'. When you hit begin to start your multiplayer server you will also enter. When people refresh their server window your server should display. Why can't people see my server? If you have a router, wireless connection or any firewall software then the chances are your server will not appear in the server list. Even if you open the ports of your router there's a very high possibility your server will still not appear. We haven't found a single case where anybody was able to host a client hosted multiplayer server and have their server appear in the server list when they had a router, wireless connection or unconfigured firewall. The only way to fix this is connect directly to your modem by a cable and turn off/configure your firewall so it stops blocking Republic Commando. 2. LAN Multiplayer Game Server. The LAN Multiplayer Game Server can be set up by starting the game and going to: Republic Commando Main Menu > Multiplayer > LAN > Create LAN Game Here you can set up a LAN multiplayer game that will remain hidden from the public server window. Select your maps and game settings. Don't worry about the server name as no one will see it. In the game settings area keep dedicated server as 'OFF'. When you hit begin to start your LAN server you will also enter. When people refresh their server window your server should not display. You will need to give people your I.P. address so they can enter your LAN game server directly. You can find out your I.P. address here. http://checkip.dyndns.org/ To join your LAN game server people will need to start their game and go to: Republic Commando Main Menu > Multiplayer > Connect to I.P. In the Connect to I.P. area they will enter your I.P. address and connect. Why can't people connect to my LAN server? If you have a router, wireless connection or any firewall software then the chances are people will not be able to join your LAN server. Even if you open the ports of your router there's a very high possibility that nobody will be able to join. We haven't found a single case where anybody was able to host a LAN multiplayer server and have people join when their computer was set up with a router, wireless connection or unconfigured firewall. The only way to fix this is connect directly to your modem by a cable and turn off/configure your firewall so it stops blocking Republic Commando. 3. Dedicated Multiplayer Game Server. There are a number of ways to set up a Dedicated Multiplayer Game Server. The first way is to start Republic Commando and go to: Republic Commando Main Menu > Multiplayer > Internet > Create Internet Game Here you can set up an internet multiplayer game that will display in the public server window. Select your maps, game settings and give your server a name. In the game settings area keep dedicated server as 'ON'. When you hit begin to start your multiplayer server you will not enter. Your game will close and you'll return to the desktop. Only the server part of your game will begin. You will see a small RC icon in your icon tray. You can open the server window and see who is joining, which map is playing and other server information. The second way is to run the dedicated multiplayer game server by using a command line. This is a command that will automatically start the server with the preferences you choose. You can read a tutorial on setting up a dedicated server using the command line on the RC Mod Site here. http://rc.injapan.org/faq.htm#commandline For running a more complicated mixed mode server you can read here. http://rc.injapan.org/faq.htm#mixed Why can't people see my server? If you have a router, wireless connection or any firewall software then the chances are your server will not appear in the server list. For a router you need to open up specific ports for Republic Commando and Game Spy. Republic Commando is not very user friendly and even after opening up the correct ports as described here http://rc.injapan.org/faq.htm#patch you may still find that the game will not appear in the public server window. In this case people have had success by opening up all of their ports. We haven't tried running a dedicated server on a wireless connection for Republic Commando but it works for other games. And again, turn off your firewall or configure it to allow Republic Commando to run. The final way to run a dedicated multiplayer game server is by renting one. A number of game server hosting companies support Republic Commando and the larger clans are hosting 32 man servers. A few game server hosting companies can be found here. http://rc.injapan.org/links.htm If you can add any further useful information to this thread then please do.

Pete Posts: 2 Joined: 2006-02-08 Location: NY User Profile | i have managed to host games and i DO have a router. it is kinda hard to do but if you know about port forwarding it ant so bad. so all u have to do is forward the ports(kinda a lot i know, also its pretty unrefined so there might be an extra one in there somewhere): 3658, 3659, 6500, 27900, and 11138. but anyways i got mine to work by forwarding those ports so im proof taht it really works
